On its way

James Kinnaird had a month off from his usual job filming the rippy crew. So we decided to get away from home and find some waves. We went to Indo, to WA, to a hoax Tassie swell, back to Indo then home for the last week… A month of travel in all, and some ok footage which made us think… ‘What the fuck do we do with this?’… Nobody will buy it?… The only other option was to get a few clips on a covermount and be forgotten in a week when the next one comes out? We thought ‘lets see if we can make something interesting and hopefully be remembered for two weeks’… There’s a bunch of acting to tell a story which involves rocket ships, far away planets, mythical waves and giant birds, plus a bit of surfing that chimes in with the story… So if you hate acting and shit acting at that, you will hate this...We wrote and shot the whole movie (which is based around a secret RCJ lets me in on) before we had even spoke to Ross and thank the lords he agreed otherwise everything we shot would have been useless. We told Brad Gerlach that Ross was in on it and his acting had already been shot and he reluctantly agreed. He was soon was followed by Laurie Towner, Ace Buchan, Hoyo, Dom Wills and even master shaper Bill Cilia.” AM

Keep your eyes out for this when it hits the stands on the cover of Waves

above images are sessions that feature in the movie

”The left and the right had hardly been surfed before us and they were both in the middle of the jungle. We had to trek a few kilometers to get to the right… We ate fresh fish on the beach out of banana leaves and said to each other about 1000 times… “ahhh we’re livin!” AM

not a soul in sight

Still pretty windy so we took a chance and left pumping waves at home, this was the first wave we saw when we turned up.... Yeeeeeeow. Puss in was first to surf. He got one of the bigger ones on his second tow and the wave let him know all about it...

Some serious water in a few... Not much underneath to cushion your fall...

Still a little windy but plenty of diamonds amongst the rough...

larger one about to go nuts... Looking pretty shallow here.

Packing up after a few nice pits... Coffee and banana bread for lunch... Scwwhhiiiit ohh.

Hiding from the wind...

windy point from Moonrat on Vimeo.

Puss in boots. My house mate. Protects our Australian borders, cooks not a bad curry, brews a good tea and surfs the point well... These are the waves we got on the high tide in the morning.... all the photos are taken by my mate Rob.

Puss in boots picking up his wallet.

few sections on the right wave. Nice to find a wave out of the 100 knot winds..

New craft carved out by Bill ' The Falcon' Cilia. 5'11 and a half. Was feeling like magic.

Lunch, guitar hero then we were back out there... Picked up a bit and the tide had dropped out so we hit another wave we knew of. So much fun but was riddled with wind as its fairly exposed, my eyeballs are red raw, doesn't look too bad in these photos but was horrendous riding the ski or just sitting there for that matter... Still, nobody out so was pretty fun...

Puss in finds a nice paddler amongst the harsh winds.... So much fun when you find them. Riding his beloved 6'8 Nirvana, another of Billy's creations...

Puss in further down the point....

Rondog on a gem. Conditions were sh*thouse but you could still find the odd clean face.

Ron swooping on the 5'7 tow board.... Wasn't that big to be using straps it was more the wind and chop that made them a necessity.

The back ledge... was hard to find them here due to all the wind.... on its day though...

Puss in trying to find the back ledge... Bit wide but i think thats more my faulty tow.

Ron scratching into one on the bowl...

Wave of the session.... Puss in finally got his sh*t together and found himself this nice one.... not one of the biggest but its rare to find an aqua tunnel when its howling onshore...

The Board might have been a little small for him..

He was blaming all his mistakes on that anyway...

Looks fine to me....?
